Prior to the Implant placement, there will be a comprehensive evaluation, including OPG X-ray and a referral to Benson’s Radiology for Conebeam CT. The Conebeam CT is an X ray which produces a 3D image of the Jaw, this will determine whether the bone in the jaw is healthy and strong, and will also tell us precisely where to place the implant for optimum success. We discuss your case with our expert specialist who will also determine if a bone graft or sinus lift will be required prior to implant placement.

Dental Implant Procedure

Once we have the go ahead that Implant placement is possible, and we have discussed the surgery details with the specialists, we will book you a short appointment to take impressions of your upper and lower teeth, a surgical guide will be made from this, and at your next appointment, the implant surgery will commence!

The titanium screw will be placed at the Implant surgery, and after 12 weeks, we will review the implant to confirm you have sufficiently healed, for the bone and gum to settle back nicely. We will take another impression and colour match for the crown to be made and added to your implant. The lab will usually manufacture the crown in 3-4 weeks.

At the next appointment, the crown will be screwed to the Implant, the fit and appearance will be checked, and your Implant will now be complete! We will book you in for a review at 4 weeks, to make sure the tooth has settled well.

How to take care of your implants?

Implants will require good gum health for the longevity of the implant. Receding gums, gum pockets that become deeper, loss of bone in the jaw, can all risk the implant becoming loose from the gum and jaw, resulting in a failed implant.

We recommend your commitment of hygiene visits at least every 6 months with our Oral Health Therapist or Hygienist to ensure your gums and jaw stay at optimum health for life.
